Mountain Biking Pogonip Open Space
#27 of 1,004 mountain bike trails in California
The word Pogonip means 'icy fog' in Shoshone.
The Pogonip area consists of a mix of forested areas and meadow.
Of the 8 miles of singletrack and fire road in the Pogonip, approximately 2.5 miles are open to bikes: Rincon Connector, Rincon Road and U-Con Trail plus the MBoSC-built Emma McCrary Trail, a beginner friendly, 1.5 mile multi-use trail that provides vehicle-free access to UCSC from downtown Santa Cruz.
Bicycles are prohibited on all other trails.

Super fun. Sweetness, magic, cobbs
Thank |Super duper duper fun. Some pretty big exposure and definitely very challenging downhill. Loops up really well with easier stuff to climb and gorgeous red woods.
Thank |I really enjoyed the riding here. Not difficult mostly rolling terrain through redwoods. It is quite a spaghetti bowl of trails and navigation can be difficult. Dense forest with tons of poison oak so be aware.
Thank |Nice trail. Pity most people have to ride it uphill!
Thank |Beautiful piece of single track, in either direction
Thank |Fantastic flow trail!
Great, reliable surface.
Nice flow and features.
Not super technical, but super fun!
Unfortunately, there is no separate "return" trail,so there are bikers in both directions and hikers too. This deserves to be a downhill-only trail...
