Mountain Biking Prospect Trail

****   Add a review
#118 of 1,395 mountain bike trails in Colorado
#782 in the world

Single track thru the forest above Telluride. Tight single track with very few rocks on the trail. Two stream crossings, both on the bile. Trail crosses several open ski runs with spectacular views. The trail is mostly thru the forest with a few technical spots due to cornering climbs. Can be muddy after a rain, with very shallow puddles

Fun and beautiful. Not what I expected from lift service riding- more XC than DH. Great trail, one of the better XC trails that I have ridden, If you are in Telluride it's a must ride. Great views!

Nice trail through the trees with occasional views of mountain village and the surrounding area. More like 10 miles than the listed 7 miles on here (that's what the official Telluride trail guide says as well). Not too crazy, but I live at 8,000 ft and I still noticed the elevation, so take the elevation into consideration and maybe try a shorter trail like the 3 mi. Village trail before committing if that concerns you. Beautiful views and nice track. The only complaint I have is that I rode the weekend they took down the mtn bike trail signs and put up the cross country and downhill ski season signs instead - this caused some real confusion on my part even though I had a map. Like other reviewers, I'll go ahead and reiterate that the free gondola system is perhaps the coolest thing ever. Definitely take advantage of that (they even have external racks for your mtn bikes)!!

Awesome high alpine trail with lift access that avoids nearly 2,000 feet of vertical climbing. Great fast and flowing descents. Must ride if you're in the area. Can be ridden on anything from hardtail to enduro bike.

Great xcountry trail with gradual to moderate ascends....if your acclimatized to ascending at 10k '
If not, it's moderate to difficult. The first half is mostly ascending with some gradual and short descends and the second half of the trail is gradual descend through the forest. There are other trails that take off from the main that can link you to all day of riding of you can get detailed info and directions.

Rider questions

Q: Time?
A: Depends on if you are riding from the gondola to Mountain Village or vice versus. I am a pretty experienced rider and it takes me about 1.5 hours from Mountain Village to the gondola. Quite a bit less the opposite direction. The trail can become busy.
