This is a fun short hike-a-bike with the choice of two descents smooth and fast or gnarly. Great views of the surrounding mountain ranges and the Continental Divide. It’s definitely worth the hike-a-bike.
Route finding is easy on this one. From the trailhead ride-push your bike up to the road follow the road a short distance watch for the trail to take off on the right. Climb up to a ridge. The next mile or so is sweet mellow singletrack. The last mile to the wilderness boundary is a steep climb up some switchbacks. Just before the wilderness boundary sign follow the singletrack to the right. The trail becomes an old road. Huge holes were dug in the road to prevent vehicles from using it. Stay right at the bottom and rejoin Ptarmigan Trail back to your car If you’re not into the steeeeep and nasty you might want to turn around at the wilderness boundary and retrace your route.
Some hike a bike. Steep and lots of big rocks. Total blast!
Thank |Don't let the first couple hundred of yards discourage you from getting to the sweet singketrack this trail has to offer! Epic forest setting and fast sweeping downhill on the way back CCW. Watchout for late afternoon storms in the summer!
