Mountain Biking Punta Vendo bike park

*****   Add a review
#4 of 95 mountain bike trails in Mexico
#3,753 in the world

Over all very good trail system. Found this hidden gold spot (not quite a hidden gem) on a non-MTB vacation. As for the rest of the Yucatan the trail is incredibly flat but techy to the max. This is not a trail o bring your family on. Their easy trail is more an intermediate with jumps and banks. Pretty good variety too combining jungle and beach with sand and ROCKS. Your bum will be sore for days after this one. Watch out for wildlife because it's everywhere and Punta Venado wouldn't like it if you ran over one of their lemurs. The bike rentals are OK but chose the 29er because it has better components and you need it too get over the rocks. Be careful at the north end the trails signs are very vague.

Getting there
Go south from Playa De Carmen on Mexico 307 at Km marker 278. Look for the entrance of the Punta Venado Beach club. At the entrance follow the dirt road down to what seems to be an old farm used now as employee housing. Then parking lot is there and the trailhead is there.

I'm giving a 5 for Punta Venado Bike Park, since it's really the only show in town for mountain bikers visiting this part of Mexico. We were down here from California 2 years ago and on the last day of our trip I find out about this place, but it was too late to ride there, so this trip I made sure to get in the schedule! We were staying in Playa Del Carmen and for $22.00 I got a taxi to take me to the park (he picked me up when I was done also) where I met Joel who set me up with my bike (Trek Roscoe) and explained the map and different trails, then I was off and peddling! The trails were easily navigated and laid out nicely, some small ups and downs mixed in with some man made whoop sections and banked turns, fun stuff, it was hot and humid and I was sucking down my hydration pack quickly so I returned to the start for a refill and to cool down a bit. Next it was time to take the trails to the beach, these were some of the easier trails so I could keep up a faster pace, which kept more air rushing past and helped keep me cooler. The beach! I was the only one for as far as you could see in either direction, it was that alone on a deserted island moment, pretty sweet! I rolled around some of the other trails and headed back to the start, did 8.5 miles total and really enjoyed it, I will be doing this again on our next visit. Pretty much shade the whole time your in the jungle so as long as your moving the breeze helps keep you cool, but it is hot and humid, nice trails, clearly marked, some fun little obstacles, some jungle wildlife, iguanas, big grasshoppers, and others, Punta Venado Bike Park 5 stars!

Fun ride. Some sand, technical and not real fast. Lots of rocks. Be sure and ask direction of single track on map. All in all good ride.

Great trail for the Yucatan. Good combination of beach and jungle. Quite technical too. It's cool because sometimes you bike over these cave entrances. Rentals are ok. Best thing is after you finish you can rest your butt on the beach at the beach club.
