Rabbit Valley

This is one of the most scenic places to visit. Well worth the effort. The trail travels the rim overlooking the Colorado River. There is a little bit of a climb to get to the rim and you share the trail with ATVs on the way out. On the rim we did not see any ATVs. We did the rim on the way out and on the way back to take in all the views. About a 20 mile round trip from the parking lot.

Nice connector to the Western Rim trail. Fruita bike shop guy said best time to ride was right after a rain. It had poured at lunch and we rode. A few steep climbs had me walking a bit. Overall not bad.

Fun fast , moderately challenging, need map, directions, wide open views of Colorado river , moderate exposure, some ability to navigate drops , climbs, directions.

Its always interesting the variety of reviews, depending on the age and skill of the reviewer.
Wife and I are older, but both advanced riders. We did not care for this trail at all, and we only got into the singletrack about 2 miles CW. Too much hike-a-bike, both up and down. We saw motorcycle tracks just before us, and those deep knobbys really soften the tread surface.
If you are a gonzo rider, you will be able to ride some of the downhills, but the steep uphills are 30-50% grade, not rideable. These sections really need detours, so that riders can choose, and have an actually rideable uphill option.
If you like these kinds of trails, go for it. If you prefer more "flowy" trails, this ain't it.

My fiancé and I did #2 trail to connect to Western Rim out & back. We started at McDonald Parking lot because we were a little short on time. It was 14 miles (McDonald to just about heading out of the Western Rim bench to Kokopelli trail) . We loved this combo, amazing views, good flow section's, some nice technical stuff too. The ride back was for sure the highlight! Fun, fast, flow, pump!

Great trail! Western Rim has incredible scenery, good flow, and great features. I recommend getting as close to the trail head as possible. Trail # 2 and Kokopelli become very sandy in spots and can make for long connectors. There is not much in the way of shade on this trail, so plan accordingly. This trail is a great opportunity to escape the crowds at 18 rd and loma

Great trail. Ride Rabbit Valley #2 out instead of the road. It will cross the road a few times. At the end of Rabbit Valley #2 you can ride straight across Kokopelli to get to Western Rim. It's kind of hard to find this way or you can just take a right on Kokopelli and there will be a sign to Western Rim. This trail is great. Just make sure you are paying attention to the trail and not the views while riding. It's relatively non technical, but things will sneak up on you if you're not paying attention. There are a lot of jumps and small drops to fly off of if that's your thing. There will be a little something for everybody on this trail. There are a few short steep climbs to get out of the rim. I turned right at the first road crossing back to Kokopelli, but it looks like on the map that you can keep going and get tons of singletrack in. I left the rabbit valley campground around 8 am and saw exactly 0 people once I got pass the further parking lot.

Super cool trail. Not overly demanding or technical, but nice and flowy desert singletrack with incredible views. Great rim-ride, not a ton of people. You feel like you're pretty far out there. Can log a relatively quick 15-20 miles between this and Kokopelli. Highly recommend it.

Very fun single and double track trail. Mostly a rolling singletrack that isn't very technical. Biggest issue is dealing with all the sand. Hot, dry days probably aren't too much fun.

Western Rim has been one of my favorite area trails. For one it is just some awesome single track with great desert views. But, also because it was off the beaten path and not heavily traveled. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore. On a recent Saturday (May 2014) we must have passed 50 people on the trail with some very large groups over 10 riders. It is great that people are riding, but this trail is taking a beating....the single track is getting wider. Please remember proper passing technique! For those that don't know, one can't ride off the trail in the desert to let a rider pass. This damages the desert permanently, yes even if it is only done once the ruts do not go away and lead to more riders following your tracks. Please, stop with your wheels on the trail and lean to the side to let others pass. Help keep this trail and all of our desert trails awesome!

More greatness in Fruita

No matter how you cut this ride ur gonna spend some time on a fort road. From exit 2 drive up on the hill as it cuts off a couple of boring miles in each dorection. We parked at the road jct where u turn left again following the freeway. Crossed under the road and took the single track just up the road a few hundred yards. There are some sprint climbs but most of it can be ridden. Views looking down on the entrance to West Rim were great. Liked the drops this direction. One long, steep with a good step in the middle. Look out. Swooping fast for a couple of miles and then a road ride out. Worth doing once. Not sure when I'll be back.

Best when done as part of Holy Grail. Great scenery fun riding, the road to it can be sandy (powdered sugar) mid July not the best time.

Absolutely killer trail, one of the more fun ones I've ridden. A pretty decent climb up but never too steep, so very manageable. Mix of singletrack, some rock-riding, not too sandy. Get to the top with an amazing view of Rabbit Valley, then you've got an absolutely ripping descent. Phenomenal mix of desert singletrack, little bit of rim-riding, one super steep section, some whoop-de-doos, it's got it all. A ton of fun, highly recommended. Also recommend driving past the Trail Through Time trailhead off 70, drive up the gravel road (west), take a left past the Zion Curtiain TH sign, and park on the CO/UT border fence. That'll eliminate a bunch of gravel road mountain biking and lop off a bunch of distance. We parked at the sign for the Zion Curtain TH and did 20 miles. Pretty self-explanatory to follow the trail, from the 70 underpass, go south but don't take the immediate first left on singletrack, take the next left, then from there, it's easy to follow. At the very end, take a right at a 4 way intersection on doubletrack and that'll bring you back to 70.

The scenery makes this trail amazing. It is a destination trail and not just for technical riding. No where near as many people as book cliffs.

Surreal trail - even by Fruita standards. The track itself is realistically not a "five star" ride, but the scenery and "out there" factor bump it up a notch. Did a bit of route-finding, backtracking - bring a good map if you're riding it for the first time. Also, if your vehicle has a bit of clearance, start at the closer trailhead - you're not missing anything on the two mile ride from the main Rabbit Valley trailhead to the last one.
