Mountain Biking Race Track

****   Add a review
#354 of 1,392 mountain bike trails in Colorado
#3,463 in the world

Race Track is 1.4 miles of machine cut singletrack that is connected into the
Methodist Mountain Trail System. The trail can be taken from the parking
lot which is a climb to the top, but connects you to the Little Rainbow Trail,
or a fire road you can continue to climb. If you decide you climb the fire
road or connect to it from Little Rainbow Trail you get a fast down hill back
to the parking lot. There is nothing technical about this trail, just smooth
dirt singletrack. The trail does cross the fire road a few times, but the trail
is so well marked you can not loose it. A nice after work ride!

Getting there
Approaching Salida from the East on Highway 50, look for the left turn onto
the not-so-well marked Burmac Road. If you see an old garage with a Big O
Tires sign out front, you just passed it. Double back and take the first right
then grab the first left that quickly dumps into a parking area. Park here.

Wife and I rode this after little rainbow, both of us really enjoyed this trail for it's speed and views. No real technical challenges here except a steeper descent towards the end.

What a great trail, fun up and down. Rocky sections but not too bad. Great trail to test tires and build cornering skills. Some tight turns but mostly wide sweeping turns so speed is kept up.

Not a technical trail, but a fun way to end a medium to short ride like we did. It's not as straight and ripping fast as the name implies, but that does make it a bit more interesting.

A good start to riding Little Rainbow. A few steep pitches to test your traction but mostly a steady climb. A very fun non-tech descent. One star deducted for the super loose sand at the bottom.

Used this to climb Little Rainbow, which is better than climbing Lost (an awesome descent). This is mostly smooth and flowy. A solid intermediate trail with only a few steep pitches.

OK as a climb as skibum mentioned below, but it's definitely best as a descent! I rode Lost Cause before I climbed (and then descended) Race Track, and Race Track is definitely the flowier, better designed trail of the two. Some fantastic singletrack here!

This is a nice climb to access the Little Rainbow Trail from the parking lot or from town. The climb is steep enough to get the heart rate up but entirely doable.
