The full Rampart Range Road runs the backside of the Front Range from Colorado Springs all the way to Castle Rock. It's very unusual to ride the whole thing--most get in some training by riding the steady grade climbing a little over 3,000 vertical feet in about 12 miles, and then turn around.

This is all road, relentlessly uphill for the first 12 miles, often washboardy, and a real chore. Best for serious cardio workouts. It used to be a great way to loop with Williams Canyon, but since the Waldo Canyon fire, that option is no more. A favored route among local hammerheads is to ride out as far as Rampart Reservoir, do the 15 miles of legitimate singletrack around the reservoir, and head back for a monster 52 mile epic.
