Mountain Biking Rim Trail

Grab a Snowmass Trail map to make things a bit easier. Start at the trail head, there is a decent climb to gain access to the ridge. Once there, enjoy the views of Old Snowmass Valley and the lake on one side, and New Snowmass on the other. This trail stays pretty easy and smooth so it's great for beginners!! You can park another car on the other end, use Snowmass's great bus system (they do accomodate bikes) or just ride back!! Have fun!!

As some have noted there are not many technical features on this trail but there is a bit of exposure. I thought the climb on the North end was laid out well and took only moderate effort to reach the spiral. Most of the fabulous views start from there.

Maybe a weak 4 stars. The beauty is standard in this area and the trail is nice but not great. Too many better trails to ride to bother with this one. The up is too hard for a beginner and the down isn't challanging enough for a strong rider. It's all about the beauty and that is everywhere.

A very flowy trail with some punchy climbs and fast downhills. There's nothing technical to speak of on this trail, however the views are to die for! And if you take your eyes off the knife-edge rim, you might...

This is just to clarify a couple things with previous reviews for people not familiar with Snowmass Village. This is a good fast flowy singletrack ride that I frequently do after work.

A good way to ride this trail to avoid pounding pavement is to leave a shuttle vehicle at the rodeo lot at the town Rec Center or else up in one of the numbered lots by the mall and use the Village Shuttle bus system as your shuttle. There are two halves to the trail, South and North Rim, which are split by Sinclair Rd. Both start with significant climbs so Sinclair Rd is a good bailout point if you're feeling winded (trailhead elevation is around 8500ft) and is a pavement coast downhill to the Rec Center. If bailing out, follow Sinclair Rd down to Brush Creek Rd and take a left, hop on the bike path to get there.

If you're feeling strong start the climb for north rim on the other side of the cul-de-sac. Also note, As mentioned in a previous review, North Rim is closed in the spring for elk calving. After the grunt, the descent down North Rim is fast and fun winding in and out of aspen forest and scrub oak/sage and pop out behind the rec center onto a bike path.

Load your car up there or hop on one of the Village Shuttle buses back to the mall and numbered parking lots.

Great trail! This is a non-technical trail that offers some fantastic views. The initial climb is no more than intermediate and it is followed by some great downhill.

Love the Rim Trail. It's a non-technical singletrack with sweeping views of the Roaring Fork Valley and a very long downhill given the climb. Time it so you can catch a free bus-shuttle back up to the trailhead when you're done.

Fun Trail. The first climb is a bit grueling, but once your on top of the ridge, the singletrack is smooth and fast. It's easy to override your turns so keep your speed in check the first time you ride it. Always a fun, quick ride in the Roaring Fork Valley. I just wish there was a return trail. The road and paved path are boring.

Very smooth singletrack climb to great views @ the ying/yang. From the top you can return the same way or continue north on Rim Trail to Sinclair Dr. The north mesa trails at Sinclair Dr. open after June 20 for Elk calving. This is a good network of about 3 miles to add on with some climbing involved. Or continue up the Snowmass Village bike path to Rim Trail TH parking.

Excellent single narrow path, gradual winding climb up and across the small mountain. Approx. 700 ft climb. Beautiful scenic views all the way to the top where you reach a 25ft diameter YingYang marble cement slab. Be sure to read the small vertical rock with a quote by King. Views are well worth the climb. Don't quit! Downhill is great!
