If you don't mind a little hike-a-bike here and there on a ride, which I don't, then what's there not to like about Salt Creek Trail. This is a true backcountry experience with truly awesome downhills and drop dead scenery in places. I rode the trail today alone. What solitude. Wonderful experience. The aspen were spectacular, just below peak, and there was not another soul on the trail. Can't beat that, and can't wait to ride here again ... SOON.
Thank |I caught this the day after a night of heavy rain.. The vegetation along the trail was very wet soaking my shoes and socks almost immediately. The roots and rocks were very slimy making the descents hairy and climbs tough. On a dry day I may have given it a better review. I rode about 7 miles starting at the Salt Creek TH heading north. The trail has a wild feel to it. North of the Buffalo Peaks TH the singletrack was a little less crude. It's not a hard trail but the traveling is slow going at times.
Thank |The Salt Creek trail offers a true wilderness experience, being so far removed from the nearest paved road and located right on the Buffalo Peaks Wilderness Boundary. Add in the fact that no one seems to use this trail (much of the trail is covered in a deep bed of pine needles), and it feels like you're discovering this area for the first time!
