A serene forest scene featuring a meandering stream surrounded by lush green vegetation and tall trees. Sunlight filters through the foliage, casting dappled light on the water, which flows over smooth stones. The landscape is tranquil and inviting, showcasing the beauty of nature. Mountain Biking Sawmill Trail

****   Add a review
#144 of 283 mountain bike trails in New Mexico

The Sawmill Trail is a short trail down Northside between the Steam Engine Trail and Bull-of-the-Woods Mountain Road. It is characterized by semi-loose runs down pretty steep terrain along the side of the slope. In this aspect, the Sawmill Trail is almost identical to Gold Camp Trail. About half way down there is a shallow creek crossing that will cool you off during your long ride down the mountain. After about half a mile, the trail terminates where it meets Bull-of-the-Woods Mountain Road.

Getting there
From the Bull-of-the-Woods trailhead in Taos Ski Valley, head up Twining Road. Then, turn left at Phoenix Switchback Road and stop at the Northside gate. Next, go up Bull-of-the-Woods Mountain Road (on your bike) and continue on it past Frazer Mountain Road until you reach a spur trail on the left. Take that spur trail to the intersection between the Steam Engine Trail and the Sawmill Trail and go left to start the trail.

This trail is definitely a cool one. Keeping riders on their toes, its straight nature and its semi-loose tread conflict with each other. It is very easy to get too fast on this trail, which sometimes come back to haunt you. Despite this, it's still a great trail and a massive amount of fun.
