Mountain Biking Rocky Point

****   Add a review
#21 of 307 mountain bike trails in Oregon
#1,034 in the world

Rocky Point has some great jump trails as well as some steep chutes that will be exciting for all skill levels. There is a wide mix of green to double black trails including trails with creek gaps, 40 foot jumps, and some of the steepest tech I have seen. My favorite trails include Skeet Chute, Twisted Knickers, Upper and Lower Roller Coaster, and Simba's Line. Coastal and Simba's are the two main jump trails, with Twisted Knickers being a mix between tech and flow. Lower Roller Coaster has some of the best tech around with some great optional lines. They have just added a new trail called Twisted Sisters which features a Pro Line. This place is great and gets better every time as it is continually being updated.I have only ridden these trails once with a buddy who lives near here and don't know much about them. There are no maps available that I have found. The trails are a network of tight singletrack with some fun, short steep climbs and descents with some great roots, jumps and woops thrown in randomly. It seems to be over an area with 3 or 4 hills but overall elevation change is small. There are some quick, tight sections which make this place fun. If I lived in Stumptown, I would definitely head out here after work for some stress relief. Go explore, you can't really get lost b/c all the trails lead back to the same road.

I went to ride these again in May, and was bummed to find the whole area had been logged.

Just visited this place (DH trails on south side) for the first time. Met 2 other guys that showed me around and shuttled me back up the hill. The terrain is great, steep grades as the trail takes you trough the trees with switchbacks depending on which trail you are riding. There are jumps and drops here and there. Many sections are so steep that it would be impossible walking back up the trail. I recommend going out with 3 or 4 guys and shuttling up Rocky Point Rd. You can ride up, but it will take anywhere from 30-45 minutes to climb it with a DH bike.
Beginners will either be walking/tumbling down some sections.

Downhill trail on the south side of rocky point road, but I rode the north side. Decent enough trail to frequent maybe once a month. I got a little turned around so if you can go with someone that knows that would be ideal. Cool flowy sections but nothing really I could hold a lot of speed on. You're constantly being kicked back onto the main gravel road which is kind of annoying, but then you just ride it til you see the next singletrack. Heads up here, there are some "changes" coming for This network and I'm not quite sure if it's for the best, but it's all here say at this point. Anxious to try the DH on south side.

No long uphills. Short steep climbs and coresponding downhills with tight and wide open switchback terrain through 20-40 year old Douglas Fir tree plantation terrain. Ground has a smooth surface with clay soil. Tight in places, hooked my climbing bars on a tree and went down. Jan. 25, 2011

Haven't downhilled here yet, but hear it's great. I hit the second trail section on the left as you climb up the main trail past the blue gate. Someone there called this one 'Lollipop'. It's short and sweet, so the name fits. watch out for the trees down in the trail, they range in size and how much effort goes into going over them. Also the mud and rain on the root sections makes this side very slippery, however local guy said that this one was the least difficult under such wet slippery conditions.
