Mountain Biking Scarface Mountain
#125 of 301 mountain bike trails in New York
Wide and rooty singletrack with a few short climbs. This trail doesn't really look like a mountain
bike trail but we got the description from the NY Falcon Guide and decided to check it out. We
actually saw another rider out on the trail, always a good sign. Once we got past the first climb
there were flies everywhere and we didn't want to stop long enough for them to swarm. At one of
the dead end trails I actually inhaled a fly and thought I was going to choke to death. Beautiful
scenery but so-so trail. You can camp at Meadowbrook for easy access to this trail. The photo
below with the nice singletrack is not too typical for this trail but I decided to post it since it
reminded me of a scene from Colorado.

From Lake Placid, take Hwy 86 toward Saranac Lake. Just after entering Ray Brook, look for Ray
Brook road on the left just after the Meadowbrook campground and across from the state police
location.
Not sure why this is even considered a mountain bike trail. I run it and hike it a lot, but haven't biked it in a decade. First mile is a bit technical, and you have to get over s big bridge with steps, then carry your bike up the hill. A mile or two of easy trail after. There are a half dozen other mountain bike trails nearby that are much better worth the effort. I don't know about the other reviews. There are no lifts, and no real downhills to speak of. avoid this
Thank |Sick Downhill....i took the lift up to the smaller peak and it ate me for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Major elevation changes with technical switchbacks. 3 or 4 runs with the help of the lift and you'll feel like you went 3 or 4 rounds with Andre the Giant.
Thank |Ahh, how far up Scarface did you ride??? The higher you go, the better the trail is. Super steep and technical downhill. Nice...
