Mountain Biking Schachen
#96 of 151 mountain bike trails in Germany
This trail is not for beginners or any one lacking in skill or physical condition. The trail starts off flat for the first couple hundred yards and then becomes a steep 7 mile climb. The first two miles are moderate, and then look for a trail on your left. Take the left and another immediate right turn. The next 2.5 miles are hard. Than the trail becomes extremely rocky and requires a great deal of agility. The trail remains rocky the rest of the way, coupled with several switch backs and weaving along the sides of a few cliffs. Final there, at the top you will find a fancy wooden house. This was the German King Ludwigís hunting cabin, so it is visited very heavily on weekends and holidays by hikers. Suggest trying to ride during the week, to make the best of the awesome down hill you have going back.

Take Route B-2 East from Garmisch toward Mittenwald. Tavel for about four miles, and get of B-2 in Klais. Make a right onto Bannhofstrasse and then left onto Elmauerweg. This is a toll road that cost about 2 euroís per car, or you could park at the train station in Klais and bike in. Continue on Elmaurweg follow it for about three miles until you pass the Elmau Castle Hotel on your left, shortly after that the road becomes trail. Turn left and park in the dirt parking lot on your right. Be sure to leave your toll receipt laying on the dash in your car.
