Mountain Biking Schonau-hirschhorn Loop

****   Add a review
#53 of 151 mountain bike trails in Germany
#8,742 in the world

You can loop all around these hills above Neckarstainach. Beautiful mountains, roads. I cut across logging roads to make a more challenging ride. I spent three hours up there and never crossed a town.

Getting there
drive from Heidelberg up 37 to Neckarsteinach. Turn towards Schonau and head to Altneudorf. Park in the lot across from the Deutche Kaiser Hotel. The trails begin just pat the bakery next to the hotel. Ride left up the road and take the second right. It heads between the houses and the hill. Climb the short section to the roads and follow the trails up and up. If you go over the top, you will end up in hirschhorn. I will post a map of the area as soon as I get it scanned in.

We rode parts of this trail during our rambling in the Neckarsteinach area. The trails are neither particularly challenging or easy. Rather, they are a great intermediate ride, good for sightseeing or training, as you can focus more on the scenery or workout than keeping upright on the bike. The towns in this area are perfect for the post-ride cooldown, as many offer great flammkuchen and pizzas, along with the fine local German beers.
