Mountain Biking Scurr Heights

***   Add a review
#94 of 193 mountain bike trails in South Island
#8,927 in the world

From the bottom of Lismore Park, this track leads you to Sticky Forest or "The Plantation" as it is also called. It is 1.5 miles or 2.5km to the southern edge of Sticky Forest. From there the track continues on the West side of the Forest until it reaches Infinity Drive on the NW end of the Forest.
This is basically a well surfaced urban trail, like many tracks around Wanaka. It's not interesting for mountain biking, but it does make a good access track from downtown to the Sticky Forest trails and the other tracks on the north side of Wanaka, like Clutha, Deans Bank, Fuzzy Nuts and Hawea.

Getting there
You can pick up the track in multiple places in town, but the place closest to downtown Wanaka is at Lismore Park. Travel to the intersection of Hedditch and Little just above the main road in Wanaka, and you will see the track originating from this SE end of Lismore Park. I believe this part of the track is officially the Lismore Track, but it is so short (just a few hundred meters maybe) that it is hard to call it a separate track. After you pedal through Lismore Park, you can pick up the trail again off of Trevathan Lane at the little park there. From the edge of Lismore Park travel not more than a 100 meters or so NE up Kings Roads, and you'll see Trevathan Lane to your right.

Excellent access trail with smooth all weather surface. Great views over Wanaka, the lake and the magnificent mountains beyond. If you hire a bike in town, ride the Scurr Heights trail out to Sticky Forest. Don't run over any walkers or runners who also use it!

This is a well-prepared gravel track. It is more of an urban trail and walking trail than it is a mountain bike trail. But as mentioned in the description, it provides direct access to the better riding trails on the north side of Wanaka. Here is a map of town that shows the Scurr Heights track. https://daks2k3a4ib2z.cloudfront.net/55b54ff099ca97744839e090/55b6fcde2f94dfa17f2c1fe7_Bike-Wanaka_Bike-Trails-Map_Wanaka1500.jpg Although the track itself is not much for riding, a huge plus is that it begins with Lismore Park. Lismore is a fun mini mtb dirt park with a bunch of small to medium-sized jumps, berms, rollers, etc. So this park makes for a fun start or finish to any ride that uses Scurr for access near the center of town.
