Single and doubletrack to the top of Sheep Mountain. Steep and rocky climb of 2000 ft. until you get to mountaintop, where there is doubletrack. Great view of Laramie Basin and Lake Hattie. Careful for hikers and during hunting season.

Take US HWY130 West of Laramie, WY 24 miles to SH 11 south towards Albany. After about 6 miles turn left on Rd 311 (Fox Creek Road). Continue another 6 miles to trailhead at Forbes Game and Fish Trailhead (Trail 386; closed Dec. 31 to June 30 due to elk overwintering and calving), or another 1.5 miles further to a small parking area and alternative trailhead just before Fence Creek. Alternatively, you can access Fox Creek Road and head north from US HWY 230 just prior to Woods Landing; look for trailhead on right after Squirrel Creek.

A biatch of a climb through the new burn area. The trail is pretty messed up down low due to the lack of vegetation from the fire-washes. But still worth the trip. This is about adventure, views and hard work-not about sweet single track. While there is singletrack, it is the outstanding views and isolation that will bring you back. Its an entire day's adventure-start early.

There is an old trail down Buckeye Creek on the west side of Sheep. I found it when I noticed an old USFS trail sign laying on the ground. Private at the bottom so get permission.
There is an old road in a canyon on the north east end of Sheep (Johns Cr.). This was cleared of deadfall in 2007 about to the middle of sect27. The canyon runs into private but there is a trail that skirts above this private and around to the Northern USFS Sheep Trailhead on the Centennial Road.
Always fun exploring up there. And always a mystery that there is so much water up there.
| ThankThe climb is definitely tough. Not really worth it since most of the ridge is doubletrack. The views are sometimes good, but certainly no better than the true singletrack rides in the area (Little Laramie Trails, North Fork).

| ThankThe climb is simply grueling. Rocky and sometimes loose. Once on top, its fairly simple eroded granite forest road and singletrack. Great view of both the Centennial and Laramie Valleys at about mile 6. You'll love the decent!
