Mountain Biking Silver Comet Rail Trail

***   Add a review
#90 of 403 mountain bike trails in Georgia
#2,185 in the world

Beginning of trail starts out easy, but gradually begins to incline. Trail starts in Smyrna, GA and ends near the GA/AL border. Wooded, paved trail. Can get crowded at times, particularly on Saturday mornings. Several bridges to cross, one which is over the highway...don't look down. Another bridge crosses a river. Very nice trail. You will enjoy it.

Beautiful paved ex-railroad bed turned bike/recreation path. Runs from Atlanta all the way into Alabama.

This is a paved trail, a very long paved trail. If it's too wet to ride elsewhere, you can log some miles here. It can get pretty crowded on the weekends.

For mountain bikes its nothing more than a fitness ride. On nice weekends you'll dodge walkers, runners, skateboarders, roadies, and local thugs using it as a cut through to wherever they're going. This isn't fun with a mountain bike, hence the 2 out of 5, but 5 out of 5 for a road bike.

Not sure how to structure this review. The path was pretty darn flat, so I was able to cover a lot of distance fairly easily. I went at the start of Fall, so the weather can't be beat. The trail is exceptionally maintained, paved, well marked and offers lots of beautiful scenic views for the riding. This trail is definitely worth checking out for just about everyone from bikers to runners, roller bladers to people that want to walk their dogs. I noticed you can even take horses on the trail in certain sections. I'll definitely be returning to get some mileage in on my bicycle.

This trail is paved and is easy riding. you should be on the look out for two way traffic and foot traffic as well. You can go from state to state (GA to AL) on this trail. There are camping and rest areas along the way. If you want to train endurance this is the place to do it.

Great for a relaxing ride with friends, but not great with a mountain bike. It's all paved, mostly straight, slow elevation changes

My buddy and I road this trail starting from the East-West connector entrance. We went 12 miles and came back so 24 miles total that day. We did find some off road trails that were fun but extremely short along the way. The tunnel through the hillside was interesting. My buddy almost crash head-on into a jogger so look out for that. Was fun but I'm not doing it again on a mountain bike.

I have nothing against wide paths for mountain biking but Silver Comet has a couple things going against it. 1) It's paved. 2) It's crowded, especially as you get closer to Atlanta. Still, it's scenic in places and you can't beat the length and accessibility. At least there are no cars!

I ride this tail 5 time a week. It great for me because I can start from my home and go right to the trail. I really enjoy it with the hole family.

Smooth paved trail that runs all the way into Alabama. Get the road bike out unless you only plan to use this one to access the Silver Comet Side trails which are singletrack.

Although the silver comet is paved there are many short i guess you could say single track trails that spin off of it just walk to the end of them before you ride them you might end up in a almost happened to me.lol. The spin of trails a very diverse some are covered in gravel, some in roots, some are just dirt, some are steep some are flat. very diverse you just have to find them.

Good beginner trail to get some good miles under your belt. Traveling west there seems to be a slight incline, especially from Cedartown to Alabama.

On my computer, it marked 67 mi. long from Alabama all the way to Mark 0.0 on Mavel Rd. It was quite an experience... A friend drove the three of Us all the way to Esom Hill Trail head, where we went .3 mile to the Alabama border and off we went our merry way to Atlanta... I can't say we didn't had fun, but at places we really wanted to give up! But once we got to the end, boy, was it worth IT!!!

While some of this track is flat and paved, it is a excilent trail. It runs from Smyrna, GA all the way to Alabama. it is 63 miles long. Along the way you will see some beautiful sights. Many bridge crossings. At one point, the trail goes through a huge tunnel under a mountain. There are plenty of single tracks and loops along the sides of the trail. BEWARE: This trail is for walking a running too, so watch out for children. The trail is great for just riding long distances. Enjoy the ride, it is very peaceful and beautiful.

Love using this trail with the family. We have a 2-year-old daugther that loves to put on her helmet and sit on her baby-chair on the back of the bike to enjoy the Ride.
It's a good thing to have all those stores along the way, so we can get her some ice-cream in this crazy hot summer!!!

Planning on doing the whole 9 yards (more like 60 mi. :-) late in Sept. So far we've done just few miles from mark 0.

This is a great trail to see what you are really made of. Make sure that you get there as easly as possible in order to avoid suffering a heat stroke. Bring pleanty of water, and make sure that you have a friend that could come and pick you up in Alabama if you don't have enough energy to go back.
