Mountain Biking Slate River Road

****   Add a review
#512 of 1,392 mountain bike trails in Colorado
#5,368 in the world

This road is 14 miles one-way until it dead ends into #317. Consequently, if you
rode the entire thing as an out-and-back it would be a 28 mile ride. This road
can also be worked into larger gravel road loops or can be used to access various
trails in the area such as the Lower Loop and the Lupine Trail.

However, I am listing it because the first several miles of this rode seem to be a
popular ride for novice mountain bikers. The first 7 or so miles are mostly flat
and wind through a picturesque valley with gorgeous views of nearby mountain
peaks and the Slate River.

But if you're a serious rider, it's only really worth riding if you're on your way to
or from somewhere else.

this is a great road to connect to 403. if you go all the way up to the fork take a right (slate D'huez.) you will then take another right at the next fork. Once you hit the top, You will tell once you See Crested Butte Mountain. Look around for a sign that says 403. this is also a great connector to 401 us locals call it the 804. Thats all i will say because its a little secret!! hahah yes

Pretty easy for the first 7 miles, and then it climbs like crazy.
