Mountain Biking Smallwood Trails
#187 of 403 mountain bike trails in Georgia
Fairly new trail system started in 2016. Trail starts from a gravel parking lot with a pump track next to it. The trail has three main loops (Lake Loop, Cowbone, and The Dark Side) that run a total of about 3.5 miles with some new minor interior extensions on The Dark Side that bring it up to 5.5.- 6 mi. It is primarily single track with many technical turns and narrow pathways through the trees. New features are being added by the city, local bike shop, and volunteers constantly so the trails are always changing. It also has a short pump track for practicing.

From Atlanta, take I-85 north to exit 147 (Hwy 98) and turn right toward downtown Commerce. Continue on Hwy 98 through Downtown and turn right on Smallwood Drive (next to Dairy Queen). Continue down Smallwood Drive for a mile or so until you see the gravel drive to the trail parking lot on your left. It will be at the top of a long hill ending in a stop sign.
This track is really cool! Oh...the fellow below me was not being fair with being so critical and not understanding that it was a many of rain storms that had washed out the area(but now is fixed) I think it's a peaceful place. Relaxes you and takes your stress away.
Thank |My favorite was how the trial has many neat ranges of coasting and bellowing hills that making you feel like your flying....All together it is well drawn out and designed.
I'll describe it:
It's got to neat mini `like' motocross track that tickles your belly button cause each slope and jump is perfectly aligned to where you will land right on to an immediate new run of jump or slope.
The trails are so surreal. (Almost dream like)
It begins on a field that takes you down an open stretch and right as you enter into a path of trail you will pick up speed and have a swamp to suddenly appear a side of you. Further down you will see signs that lets you know which way is easy or difficult.
As you glide on through you drift past and in between tree's on a smooth flowing dirt path, then suddenly aside of you will appear a big soaring lake as the track courses you near side for some time.
I put 5 stars because there is nothing like this around within 2 hours....
Not much to be said for these trails. Would have given a better rating if the pump track and turkey creek dh were not in disrepair
Thank |We had a great time. The family went out after buying my wife a new bike. She is new to mountain biking and had a great time on the pond loop. My younger son and her hung out at the pump track while my older son and I hit the Dark Side. This was a great trail. Perfect balance for our skill level.
The trails are well marked.
The trail was super uncrowded (saw 2 other bikers as we were leaving).
12 minutes from home.
Thanks, Fox
We will be back regularly!
Thank |Extremely well maintained and marked. Fairly flat and
Thank |smooth especially if you are used to more mountainous
Riding. Lots of twists and turns. Fairly fast with few obstacles.
A few nice banked turns. Watch for loose sand in a few corners.
Trail was just cleaned up. Some areas that were technical are no more open mainly grassy areas and the fallen trees are cleaned up. Overall still fun and challenging. Great low use beginner trail that will still allow someone with some experience to enjoy. It's shorter so adding a second lap is adds to the experience. The local bike shop did a great job setting this up and it's nice and clean. They are having a shop event august 19, stop and check it out.
Thank |Good
Thank |Good trail system and close to home. Not used much and plenty of parking. Well marked trails.
