Mountain Biking Soldiers Memorial Park Bike Trail

****   Add a review
#25 of 105 mountain bike trails in Indiana
#2,385 in the world

It is seven miles of mixed hills, gullies, flatlands and even tree obstacles for mountain biking enthusiasts.

It is the first official mountain bike trail in the city of La Porte Parks Department, and now it is open with new markings and trail guides in a collaboration between the park department and IU Health La Porte Hospital.

The Soldiers Memorial Mountain Park Bike Trail (as it is officially called) opened yesterday during a sign unveiling in Soldiers Memorial Park.

Found a down tree across the path not far from the trail head. Other than that it is in good shape even with the rain we have had .

Beginner to intermediate. Nice, flowy trail with few obstacles. No tough hills. Easy to get turned around and lost. Overall really FUN trail. Our favorite all around trail in the area so far.

Not a long trail, but a lot of fun. The north (parking lot) side is tighter and has some narrow, steep "goat trails". The south side is smoother and faster. This trail seems to dry quicker than others in the area. Good stuff.

The trail on the opposite side of the parking lot is a fast hard packed great ride. The trail on the same side as the parking lot is a confusing network of trails with some tough obstacles.

Great trail system - really enjoyed it. A little wet from all the rain. Everything from beginner (good for older kids) to really advanced (I needed to unclip a few times closer to the lake).

A nice trail system. Real cool that it is located within the city limits. It was wild to be able to night ride without lights! There was enough light from the nearby street lights that I never used my lights.
The trails nearest the trailhead (next to the lake) are advanced. Very narrow benches, some tight climbs and descents, and some technical bridges. Good stuff. They will need to be developed and benched a bit more to make them more sustainable if they get much traffic. The trails on the other side of the road are intermediate. Nothing too hard here that you can't avoid. There are some nice bridges and technical features if you are up for them, but they are all located on side trails.
Overall a nice trail system. They got a lot of trail in a small area. Very tight and twisty. This is not a speed trail. But well put together and fun.

nice switchbacks in turnsand also technical.. But the layout markings of trails are hard to follow. It was too hard to follow the trails from beginning to end we could not start and finish the trail all the way we just keepdoing small loops and coming back out to where we came from

A very fun trail with many black diamond sections that will challenge even a very experienced rider. The trail is split into two sections. The one near the baseball diamonds is an intermediate track that is flowing and has some fun elevation changes. The other side is more advanced and fairly technical with many black diamond sections. The trails can be difficult to follow at points due to lack of marking. The trail Blazes that are available are poorly placed and many times you have the feeling you have started doubling back on the same trail. Conditions were slightly wet and muddy but the trail condition was good. It doesnt look like the trail has been maintained since its opening and hopefully the local club takes charge and takes care of some of the downfalls of this trail. Overall its a very fun and difficult trail with small jumps and cool air bridges. With a few minor changes and some bail-outs for the black diamond sections this would be an excellent single track.

Fun trail with some black diamond sections. Lots of log piles. A few fun jumps. Downfall is that its not very well marked at the beginning. After the first half mile or so its easier to navigate.
