The mtb climb and descend of the Mt. Elbert (the roof of the Rockies, with its 14,440 feet) is a spectacular and rewarding high altitude activity. A nice and long climb (only the last hour carrying your bike on your shoulders) and an amazing (and 100% rideable) descend, from the rocky and steep upper section, to the flowy forests of pines and aspens in the lower section. Only the first part of the descend is difficult; the rest of the trail is much easier.

It's nice to park in the lower South Elbert trail parking lot and climb through the singletrack to the upper parking lot. You can also take the double track, but if you do so, you will miss a very nice piece of trail (in fact, I saw a bear in this peaceful and quite trail!).

As the trail is shared by hikers and bikers, respect and common sense is needed. We run into several hikers and they were very friendly; in fact, many of them encouraged us in our way up!

    I strongly recommend this adventure!!

Here I share with you the video of our experience. Hope you like it!
