A few more thoughts directed especially towards those visiting the park for the first time. Mountain bikers and hikers do not need to drive into the park, and park at the main trailhead on the NE end. This requires a park pass which costs $9/day currently. Instead, there is ample parking on Hwy 96 in a couple of excellent spots. First, if you want to focus on the canyon trails on the east end, there is parking where Arkansas Point, Rodeo Ridge, Dead Dog, Rock Canyon and Cuartro Sinko trails all merge. Second, if you want to ride the central and western loop areas, there is good parking where South Shore Trail meets the highway. These would make two excellent but different riding days for many riders. You can easily do 15 plus miles on the east end riding the outer loop and all the canyon trails in between. And then you can do 20-25 miles of less demanding riding on the central and western loops together for another great day of riding.

    Reviewing Steep Tech:

Think twice before doing this trail. I did and made the choice to ride another day. =) But it's cool they have this trail in the system for those riders who are ready for this level of tech.

On the ground this trail doesn't begin now until you get near Highway 96.

Better on the west side. East side is flat as it proceeds to The Duke trail near Hwy 96.

Easy trail but one problem for beginners in the middle of the little canyon.

Lots of flow. Good canyon trail to bring a less experienced rider on though there is one section that will be a problem. Fun for all.

Lots of curves and good flow if ridden east to west. Some fun to be had if you attack it and pedal hard.

    Reviewing South Shore:

Fun cross country type trail that connects with the technical trails in the side canyons. You no longer have to ride the road portion. South Shore is singletrack for its entire length.

    Reviewing Lower Dog:

Fun trail with a ~25 yard sequence of steep drops that is rideable but require careful line choices and good speed control.

Definitely a short fun trail that leads to Lower Dog which presents one of the more challenging problems in the trail system. This is a don't miss portion of trail imo.

As has been said a million times, this is a great place to ride when the mountains are snowed in. The trails are clearly made for mountain biking with constant curves which are often slightly bermed, good flow, and good use of the topography. I love the more advanced trails on the east end. Tons of fun to be had in this section for intermediate and advanced riders. Worth the drive for out of town riders. The entire system reminds me of Switchgrass in KS, but I thought the riding was more interesting and fun. I'll rate the system intermediate, but there are beginner, intermediate and advanced trails. There are even a few double black moments.
