Mountain Biking Spruce Creek Preserve

****   Add a review
#26 of 289 mountain bike trails in Florida
#1,062 in the world

The trail is approx. 10 miles of fun singletrack and is open to cyclists, hikers, and equestrians. It can have a lot of sugar sand in the dry season. Some technical areas but most is moderate with a few good up hills. Even though there is a network, locals have cleared a pretty good loop. Most of the ride is in heavy shade.

Spruce Creek trail crew. Please quit dumbing-down this barely technical Trail by removing all of the Palmettos. This is a nature preserve. Florida law protects the saw palmetto and it is illegal to disturb or collect the berries off of this plant. Just because the trail is too tough for you sand sloths does not mean the rest of us do not enjoy it.

I will start with here is another trail thats is supposed to be primarily for bikers, and yet it is infested with hikers who have no respect for bikes. They don't move or yield in anyway. They curse at you for passing them. I don't understand this behavior. .................................................................................................................................................

The new section was supposed to be for experienced riders, but it's more of the same sugar sand and palmetto roots. The people here will cut out the roots, which will make the sugar sand issue worse. Instead they should pull dirt from either side of the trail and place it over the roots until it is packed. I only go here for my mom, otherwise I do not enjoy this trail.

It's sad to see our trails getting closed down due to hikers protesting. This one will probably be next. We can't go on their trails, but they can go on ours. I don't see how this is fair. ...............................................................................................................

If not for the angry hikers always there I would give it 2 stars. The trail still sucks compared to others in the area.

Yes it could be a bit boring, depends on how fast you are going. I you are launching big bunny hops on this trail you are probably not going very fast. Yes, it does repeat a bit, very windy, I have actually gotten a little dizzy at speed on sections of this trail. I would not go as far as to say it's a beginner trail. There are many Graham Swamp type climbs and switch backs that add difficulty though a beginner route could be obtained with a little thought. Pick up the speed and you will find the difficulty, in the XC sense, rise. Remember it's a Florida XC trail system.

Epic conditions today for this trail system. The new trail is just an out and back at the moment but is getting very well run in. Tons of rain everywhere mean nothing here, just great packed trails.

Very good trail for those looking to start mountain biking, the scenery is gorgeous and it has a bike wash.

After the second segment as of 2/3/17 there is a part which splits to easy or hard, the hard trial has 2 trees down blocking the trail. I ride this trail often and they have added some fun bridges on the power line trail.

Did over 10 miles on the trail today right after the storm. Nice and cool, trails well maintained. Got lost after a few hours trying to find our way back to the West trail head. Some nice man agreed to show us the way. Don't know your name, but THANK YOU!

Beginner/Intermediate. Loved the ride! It flowed well, well marked, good distance and beautiful scenery. Mostly smooth riding with a few flat topped logs and small jumps to spice things up. I can't wait to start riding this trail more often and trying to beat my own times as practice before I hit the big boy trails.

Not a beginner trail, easy but not beginner. Also was very sandy, and west trail head is down an un-maintained dirt road.

Decent single track with some switch backs. A lot of small roots, nothing to big and crazy. Has a couple small climbs and descents (key word here is small) great for a beginner or looking to put in some miles (I think it's about 10). No jumps or drops. A few more features would be nice but it is well maintained.

If you head left you will go into the trail that is open to bikers and hikers. There are people on bikes that come by once in a while, so you do have to move to the side when they are coming up. The trail is great and includes walking through the woods, has many winding curves, goes near the river, and has a lot to see. It's a wonderful trail. There are a lot of roots and vegetation, and is not suitable for a stroller. If you head down this trail and use "bailout A" to circle back to the parking lot you will have walked around 1.30 miles total. If you continue on and use "bailout B" to circle back to the parking lot you will walk around 2.5 miles total. We didn't go on to bailout C, as it was getting hot and that was a good hike length for our kids. The bailout signs are kind of pointing away from the trail, so when you see the post just look at it to see what bailout you are at.

Fun trail with some tricky depends over roots, Especially at the beginning. Well maintained. Great trail for a beginner but still challenging in spots for the intermediate rider.

My fiance and I are new to mtb and love it. The is our second trail, the first being the 11 mile Ocala Forest trail near Alexander Springs. This trail is much more difficult, with the winding and tree roots. Great cardio! We love it and so glad it's in our back yard.

I am new to mountain biking and this trail is close to home. I feel like it is teaching me a lot about moutain biking in Florida. The up hill portions with the big roots kick my butt every time, especially the last section before sunset bluff (a very scenic spot overlooking the creek... Also, the spot where I proposed to my wife.). All in all, great trail and a lot of fun.

This is my local trail and I ride it frequently. The trail is well maintained and decently marked. It is a very rooty sandy winding course. The trail has a couple of decent downhills and a few root technicals. It is best ridden after a day of rain and will hold up to four days. When it has been dry, after five days it starts to become sugary. Caution of the occasional hiker/dog walker on the trail oblivious to the fact that it's an MTB trail.

Really fun trail. Great for endurance. I almost got ran over by a deer, but other then that, one of my favorite trails.

not very technical but has good flow in some areas. Not to much sugar sand at all compared to some nearby trails

Rider questions

Q: Can I bring my dog?
A: Dogs on a MTB trail is just asking to hurt someone. Walking on the trial is also dangerous. MTBers are not allowed on Hiking trails so why must you guys infest our trails.

Q: Is there anywhere to rent bikes?
