Mountain Biking Spruce Mountain Trail #307
#187 of 417 mountain bike trails in Arizona
Spruce Mountain is part of a favorite equestrian park in the middle of Prescott National Forest. The area is generally 15–20 degrees cooler than Phoenix and Tucson, and bikers from points south show up all summer in droves to escape the oven-like heat. But we all know that the whole point of going up is to come down. Spruce Mountain is one of those blessed rarities: The uphill grind is shorter than the downhill back to your car. And what a downhill run it is! When it isn’t pristinely groomed singletrack, the trail is crisscrossed with roots, rock outcroppings, some sand, and erosion-control logs so high and frequent the trail looks like a staircase. This roller-coaster ride continues for five-and-a-half miles, all of it demanding your utmost attention at all times.
