Mountain Biking Spruce R.R. Trail

***   Add a review
#95 of 1,216 mountain bike trails in Washington

ATTENTION: This Spruce R.R. Trail is closed to the public due to trail work until fall 2020
This trail for the most part is all single track & follows an old RR grade along the N shore of Lake Cresent. Occasionally it leaves the grade and runs along the lakes edge. A great trail for beginners or just a quick 11 mile workout with great scenery, this trail would probably be pretty crowded on summer weekends. Starting from the N shore picnic area (W end) the first 1.5 miles is along the dirt road to the end. Winding around the shore it gains and looses the same 100 ft a few times but no big climbs. Can be done as a one way with a second car or shuttle.

A very pretty ride. Most of it is on asphalt. However, the areas around one of the two old railroad tunnels is a biy technical.

Nice in and out trail. I started at the North Shore Recreation Area parking lot (as mentioned above) and rode along the gravel road to add some extra mileage to the ride. But, you can drive down the road and start at the actual Spruce RR Trailhead. The trail is a pretty easy ride with basically no technical sections. It also has great views of Lake Crescent. If you wear a swimsuit, there are some good places to jump in. Watch out for hikers and horseback riders.

fairly nice little out-and-back type trail that skirts the edge of the lake. The distance from Port Angeles and the name of the turn off road are wrong. It's 15 miles, not 25 miles from Port Angeles, and the name of the turn off road is East Beach Road, not East Shore Road. There are a number of very large trees fallen across the trail that have to be scrambled over or under, though there are also a number of other downed trees that have been cleared. The views from the trail are beautiful and worth the trip.
