Mountain Biking Stanky Creek
#36 of 202 mountain bike trails in Tennessee
3 loops that can ridden together for an 8.0 mile loop with different variations of riding it. It is tight and twisty singletrack with abundant switch backs. There are a few hills in this area but nothing to steep... the trail has a lot of fast and tight(barely handlebar width) singletrack sections. There is also a very nice dirt jump section within the trails that will test you if you've got the balls. This is about as technical as the riding gets here and IMO probably the best riding in the area. If you come to Memphis and want to ride this is the place to go.

Exit I-240 at covington pike. Continue on Covington pike to Yale rd and take a right. Go through 2 4-way stops and continue about .25 miles. There are no signs but it is a small gravel parking lot on the left.
or....
Take I-40 to Sycamore View and proceed north on Sycamore View to Bartlett Rd. Proceed north on Bartlett Rd. to Yale Rd. then left... the parking lot is the first drive on your right.
This is a fun trail system with nothing too crazy. It is a good place to get a good little ride in. The dirt leaves something to be desired. Just a little rain and you have peanut butter to ride in.
Thank |Mainly flat and not very technical. Probably a good trail considering it is within the metro area, but not a trail I would go out of my way to visit. Apparently there are races one night during the week and they mark off areas to highlight the race route, don't be fooled if you come across them as I did the morning after. You can just tear them down and blaze on.
Thank |Don't let previous post about trees down scare you off. Rode yesterday 6-30-16 and all trees cleared. Possible that previous poster hit right after a bad storm. It's in great shape and they seemed to have addressed the low lying soggy areas that I hit when visiting last year. A couple of good drops and steep creek crossings to keep you on your toes. I started on the blue trail to the left and kept taking lefts to complete all three loops. There is a big drop pretty early on Blue trail. At the top of the descent, a large hardwood separates the two options - both steep, but left side is smoother and easier, right side more rutted and technical. Creek crossings were smooth and easy if you keep your speed up as most had built in structure to keep you moving. Really fun ride and seemed to be popular with local riders. Not my last ride there for sure.
Thank |This trail could be a great one if they would take care of it. Most of the signs were torn down, and the weather has blown trees down in the middle of the track. It's obvious that no one cares about this track otherwise work would done to it like most trails in South Mississippi.
Thank |Decent trail, make sure to make every left turn otherwise you will get lost. A little more up and down for how flat memphis is. Groomed very well and can challenge anyone.
Thank |Great riding. Most challenging in the area.
Thank |Some trails are blessed with wide open vistas and acres of varying terrain. Urban singletrack rarely is, and Stanky Creek is no exception. It is a tiny, wooded plot inside a major metropolitan area. Despite these limitations the builders of this trail have created a tight, twisty, interesting ribbon of singletrack to enjoy with several punchy climbs and swoops through creek bottoms. There's even a few constructed jumps for those with aerial inclinations. They have made use of practically every inch of available land to get 9-10 miles in this limited space. There is even a BMX park in one section. You certainly want to see what this trail has to offer if you find yourself in Memphis.
Thank |The BEST trail in Memphis in terms of fun. It has bridges, creek crossings, even a BMX track, drops. The only thing this place needs is some better signage, easy to question where to go next when coming up to the crossings. Came across some Stanky Creek Cycling club members and was told to just keep taking lefts at every crossing . There are dog walkers and runners here but everyone was friendly and would quickly move over for anyone that was at a faster pace.
Thank |Great set of trails. Had a little for everyone. Could be marked better. The wife and I set out to just do one loop and ended up lost having to complete almost the whole trail system before we finally came across some locals who helped us find our way to the parking lot with about 30 minutes of sunlight left.
Thank |Nice trail system, exciting ride for intermediate riders.
Thank |Awesome trail system. I spent the better part if a day here and had a blast.
Thank |Nice trails for Memphis. Lots of root gardens, but there are some pretty fast sections. Some short, steep hills both to climb and descend. Several bridges, a small ramp, some wall ride bridges, and e BMX park too. There's about 10+ miles of trails, and their pretty well maintained.
Thank |Fast and fun. I was in Memphis for the weekend and had read about this, brought the bike and got out early. (Good thing, too: come to find out there was a 12 hour race starting just as I was finishing up.)
This is one trail that would get more fun every time you ride it. I would have ridden it completely differently had I known what obstacles/features were coming up, and in general, I would have been going a lot faster.
As for the "big hill," not only was it not too bad; while I was scoping out a line, some dude came bombing past me and took the whole drop without even a hint of braking. I admit to squeezing the grips a bit myself on the way down, but it's so short that you don't really have time to panic.
Thank |awesome track! You can burn this trail up.
Thank |Three trails that can be ridden together adding up to about 9 miles. The Blue trail(1.5 mi) is the shortest but has some really technical spots. Yellow trail (2.3 mi) is a very good ride. Plenty of climbs and desents. White trail(5.1 mi) is the longest and most fun. Lots of rolling hills, a few good jumps and a BMX park on the far N/E side of the trail. lots of wodden bridges and log crossings throughout the entire park. Difficult creek crossing at 1 point but there is a well constructed bridge on the east side nrer the end of the white trail. Trails are marked and easy to fallow. If you are new to these trails you can get turned around and a bit lost very easily. A compus or handheld GPS may be a good idea. PLEAST DONT LITTER. Lets keep it nice for everyone to enjoy.
Thank |The trail is very tight in spots but not bad it has a few climbs on the white trail that are fair nothing to bad, lots of bridges, log crossings, the trail has nice flow and when its dry its fast, there are plenty of step ups via ditches and a difficult creek crossing (but its easy with the proper angle and momentum) Overall, its a fun trail and if you have the balls try the BMX park those guys love to watch MTBikers give it a go
Thank |easily accessibly, best trail network i've found in memphis, technical but easy enough for most beginners as they can just ride around obstacles
some parts of the trail get very muddy after a heavy rain* Review edited 4/13/2009
Thank |Stanky Creek has to be the most technical ride in the Memphis area. It was a great ride and offers alot for various skill levels. Some sections can be a bit above the average begginers skill level though. You can not do any better than these trails in the Memphis area.
Thank |A good trail. Just stay on the trail lest you end up with a case of poison ivy or poison oak. Plenty of difficult (for me) areas. Close to where I live so I ride it often.
Thank |Overall, not bad. Probably the best trail around the Memphis area. The description is right, though, it's a bit confusing the first time. The trees have paint on them the tell you which trail you're on (blue, yellow or white). There is a ladder section and a BMX play area.
