Mountain Biking Steam Engine Trail
#145 of 283 mountain bike trails in New Mexico
This downhill trail starts across from Redi's Run on Bull-of-the-Woods Mountain Road and ends at the Sawmill Trail. The trail surface is brown, mostly off-camber forest dirt occasionally interrupted by a root. After leaving the Bull-of-the-Woods Mountain Road, it undulates in a generally downwards direction near a crystal clear mountain creek. Occasionally there will be alternate lines you can take around the more challenging sections, but I think any intermediate rider could ride the whole trail through. After the trail leaves the creek, it ends at an intersection with the Sawmill Trail.

From the Bull-of-the-Woods trailhead in Taos Ski Valley, continue up Twining Road. Then, take a left onto Phoenix Switchback Road and stop to get out your bike at the Northside gate. After passing the gate (by bike), continue onto Bull-of-the-Woods Mountain Road and follow it up to its Intersection with Redi's Run and the Steam Engine Trail.
