This is a mixture of singletrack and dirt fire road with brief sections of paved road to connect between trails.
You get a little bit of everything in this ride: steep climbs (short and challenging), hike-a-bikes (not long lasting), fast singletracks, wide fire roads, packed dirt and rocky technical sections. In addition, you get beautiful panoramic views of Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley and the mountain ranges around the area mixed into suburbia. The tranquil expanse of Bard Lake (a reservoir) makes for great photographs.
All the trails in this ride are usually well maintained and in good condition.
You will encounter more hikers and trail runners on some trails e.g. Sunset Loop and Long Canyon Trail, than on other more remote trails for example, between Sunset Hills and Woodridge.
Certain times of year it can be windy especially during summer, and in the fall the trails are covered with tumbleweed which likes to block the trails and can be a nuisance. Check the weather and dress accordingly and go at an appropriate time.
