You can this loop from the Pacific Coast Highway Point Mugu State Park
either in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. There are good
reasons to try both directions and see for yourself. They are two very
different rides. Huge views of the Pacific, Santa Monica Mountains and
the Boney Mountain state wilderness area from the top of the ridge.
The most important question is whether you want to do the Guadalasca
Trail (the premier singletrack trail in Sycamore Canyon) as a climb or a
descent.
To plan on descending Guadalasca, turn left onto the Overlook Fire
Road about a quarter mile past Point Mugu S.P. campground.
climb this long but gentle and scenic ascent straight through until it
becomes a singletrack descent. This is Guadalasca. Turn right when
you intersect a double track (Wood Canyon Fire Road) and descend all
the way to Sycamore Canyon Road. Turn right and return to the
trailhead.
To climb Guadalasca Trail, reverse the above directions. Watch for the
Guadalasca sign and singletrack turning left off Wood Canyon Fire
Road.
