Mountain Biking Sycamore Canyon

****   Add a review
#42 of 1,004 mountain bike trails in California
#855 in the world

A fun ride thru some "restricted territory" to Martha's Grove. This trail, although void of any long hard climbs is instead full of fun drops and rises and plenty of losocal rock beds. Careful on the Martha's Grove loop, easy to get airborne and lead to facial disfigurement.

Conditions are great, some river rock and sand trap if you continue to or from Santee Lakes

Really nice trail. Most part can be use for beginners except for one rocky part by the west part of the trail. Nice place to get your cardio done. Make sure to get plenty of water because on sunny days this place gets really hot!

This is a good all round trail with connections to some options for those familiar with the area. Mostly dry single track. Open preserve closes with the anticipation of rain and remains closed until it drys up. The trial varies in difficulty but is easy to moderate throughout.

Super fun XC single track. I go in through the trail near the light just below the school.
Stay parallel to the homes until you past the electrical house then you can continue straight through the military property signs and everything starts to open up. Many different trail options with various difficulty. Have fun!

Review said NOTHING about loose river rock!!!!
We parked at the staging area from the 67 and headed off down the ridge trail. It was all loose river rock from the staging area all the way to the bottom of the valley. This area is not for beginners. The climb up Cardiac Hill lives up to it's namesake- long and steep! We should've gone down that hill instead of up!

One of the last Open Space areas in San Diego with good biking trails. The fires a few years ago ruined the Martha's Grove trail but efforts to restore the trail continue. Fun trails with no major climbs unless you ride up the fire road.
