Mountain Biking Tahoe Rim Trail to Western States
#685 of 1,004 mountain bike trails in California
The TRT trailhead is a steep sumbitch straight out of the car. Be ready. Excellent views of the Truckee River Canyon via cliff overlooks. Technical single track with a lot of volcanic rock on the TRT portion, but mainly flat. The cutoff to Western States is fun with technical single track and surprises. Western States is bermy, fast run. You'll be on your brakes a lot.

Start on TRT immediate across the street from the Tahoe City Golf Course. Travel north and then take cutoff to Western States. Eventually the ride spits you out at the bridge beneath Hwy. 89 at the Truckee River. Then it's a paved bike path pedal back to the put-in and your car.
