From the junction with the Tahoe Meadows section of the Tahoe Rim Trail and Tunnel Cr Rd, the TRT climbs steeply up an extended switchbacked climb, topping out above treeline with some amazing views of both Marlette Lake and Lake Tahoe below. From there, the descent is rocking high-alpine singletrack, much of which consists of tacky dirt and rock--a radical departure from the normally sandy/gravelly tread of the TRT.
Once you reach the junction where the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) follows the TRT, bikes are no longer allowed on the TRT. Instead, hang a right and drop down the forest road to the Flume Trail, or hang a left by the bathroom at the bottom to drop down to Spooner Lake.

This section of the TRT is a good bit tougher than the nearby Tahoe Meadows section. A thousand foot climb leads to a high alpine ridgeline and heads back down... so much fun!
