Mountain Biking Tennessee Divide

#179 of 403 mountain bike trails in Georgia
#4,887 in the world

Long slog up Trey Mountain, down Indian Grave Gap road, up a paved road
through Unicoi Gap then back on FS roads to the start (over another mountain).
Several options at the end to get back depending on how you're feeling, FS178 is
the shortest (left turn off of 44 through a gate).

Getting there
From Helen, GA drive 1 mile north on GA17/75. Take a left on Alt 75, cross the
river, and take an immediate right onto FS44. If you get to a church on 75, you've
gone too far. Go 2.9 miles, past the end of the pavement, and park at the Game
Check Station.

Some great gravel road riding, with some very long, steep climbs. I just wish there was some actual singletrack to ride in this area... if there was, I would have ridden here so much more when I lived in GA! Oh, BTW, on my ride here, I saw a MASSIVE wild hog! At first I thought it was a black bear, but then it turned sideways to me and I realized it was a hog. That thing was huge!

Long climbs followed by some of the best/smoothest double track downhill I've ever seen. You cross a small creek at the bottom and begin the climb up unicoi gap and onto FS 44. You can continue on FS 44 back to the station or hang a left and take some less traveled FS 178. FS 178 was a bit rutted and bumpy, but super fun. Great gravel grind for a wet day ride.
