Mountain Biking The Gauntlet

*****   Add a review
#78 of 300 mountain bike trails in Virginia
#2,931 in the world

This is the fastest, rowdiest trail in the entire trail system! While some of the descents off the top are tight and exposed with hairpin switchbacks, The Gauntlet (on average) is much more open with much better flow, allowing you to conserve your speed and blast down the mountain! There are tons of corners to carve up towards the top, but as the trail descends it gets rockier and rootier, transitioning into a high speed suspension testing zone lower down.

Drop the saddle and be prepared to rock on this trail!

Note: this does drop you down on the east side of the ridge, on the otherside of the mountain from the Bennett Springs Trailhead.

This trail is a very fun, fast downhill that starts with a series of epic jumps. After that it transitions into a fast singletrack with an occasional little jump or drop. At the bottom your hands might be stuck to your bars!

The Gauntlet trail is awesome and personally my favorite trail at Carvins Cove. Its a fun, flowing downhill run that's not too rough but still has some rocks and roots. The switchbacks aren't too tight either, overall a great trail. Its about two miles in length.
