The Knot features plenty of climbing, incredibly fast descents, and some breathtaking drop-offs overlooking the Poinsett Park Lake and Shank's Creek. The trail was embraced and made possible largely due to the efforts of Park Manager Zabo McCants and members of the Sumter Chain Gang, Midlands SORBA, a special grant from IMBA, and many other volunteers.

Very well designed and built trail. The signage is perfect. It flows good and has few areas of some difficulty.
Thank |Easy, flowing course with some short but good climbs. Great for riding fast.
Thank |This is probably one of the best trails I have ridden in SC. Well maintained. The park rangers gave me all the information I needed. It is free. The trail connects to a lot of other nice trails in the area. It was well worth the 50 min ride to get there.
Thank |Very nice trail system. Something for everyone, not too difficult or technical. Most of the trail is fairly smooth with few roots.
Thank |Trail is in great shape. Plenty of opportunity to pick up some speed on this trail and contains some moderate climbs as well. Fun trail!
Thank |After shortly moving to the Sumter area I heard about The Knot and thought it was just hyped up and overrated due to Sumter being so flat. When I arrived at Poinsett State Park I still wasn't sold but as soon as I got on the trail I was quite surprised! During warmer months I normally go about once a week. Very fun trail systems here and especially being in this part of South Carolina where it tends to be just flat and sandy.
Thank |The knot was a fun trail with a few nice climbs. Although not very technical (I took my 9 year old son along and he cleared everything), it offered a great mix of challenge and fun.
Thank |Some of the trail marking were a little unclear.
Amazing ride. Beautiful park. Worth the trip!!
Thank |Come ride, it is challenging but a fun ride. For an intermediate rider you will find it very challenging. If you only ride it and no other trails turn around at the end and ride it backwards. Fun....
Thank |I currently only have a cross bike in my stable so it made the trails a good bit more of a work out VS riding a mountain bike. The level of maintenance is awesome huge props to the trail crews.
Thank |Very fun trail to ride and not too technical. Make sure you watch some of your downhill turns because if you miss it, you will have a drop off to contend with.
Thank |Great trail! Rode it for the first time today and really enjoyed it. Nothing overly technical but good flow with some small climbs.
For first time visitors, go all the way down the road to the park office (they have trails maps inside) and the trails starts once you cross the pond damn. The Knot is very well marked. At the end of The Knot, I crossed over and rode Splice to Whipperwill (new trail) to Scout Loop back down the parking lot.
I see myself riding here on a regular basis.
Thank |The new section of trail now extends the Knot to 10 miles. And every bit of it is fantastic flowing singletrack!
Thank |great climbs after you cross the pond with some fast flowy sections nothing super technical..
Thank |Great trail! I went out looking for a combination of fast track with climbs. Excellent trail for both.
Thank |Best trail in the area.. Can ride this trail over and over on the same day so awesome twisty flow sections and a nice fast drop off after the old shed! This trail also has that feel like your futher from home than you really are feeling. Great place to go for a day just to ride and get away from it all!
Thank |One of the newest trails in the Palmetto State, the Knot is certainly a pleasure to ride! This trail has good flow with a few nice climbs, but nothing too insane. Great singletrack with some nice tight & twisty spots. There are a few neat overlooks where you have nice views of Poinsett Lake & the surrounding forest. There's also a creepy, but neat, old shelter at one point on the trail which the locals refer to as Jacob's skinning shed. Kind of reminds you of something out of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, haha! But really it's about the ride & the Knot does not disappoint! When combined with nearby trails Campbell's Pond, the K3, Hardcore & sections of the Palmetto Trail, one could easily spend a day reveling in the fun & beauty of this area of the state!
Thank |Fun trail!
