Mountain Biking The Trails At The Beach
#117 of 403 mountain bike trails in Georgia
The Trails at The Beach were created by the Southside Mountain Bike Association led by Jim Huff and Terry Tuck. In less that one year, eight miles of single/double track trails have been installed. These trails are well-maintained. The trails are rated by color-trail signs. These trails have something for every different skill-level mountain biker. You can access a map of these trails by clicking on http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Trails/7930

"From Atlanta: Take I-75 South to Exit 75 (Highway 138), turn right (west), go two miles to red light, turn left into Clayton County International Park, go .4 mile to bike trails parking sign, turn right into gravel parking lot. There is a trailmap at the trailhead.
There are a lot of decent trails at ATL Beach now. 5.93 miles was my last estimate in 7/2018.
Thank |There is an extra 4 miles or so of paved paths also. I wish more people would ride there, I get tired of wearing all the spider webs.
I posted a google earth map with an overlay of all the trails I've found so far in the gallery. hope it helps.

Thanks to the awesome guys who built more connector trails recently. I was able to get 9 miles almost 100% on trails by doing every trail both ways. Add 3 miles riding the paved path back and forth and you have a solid 12 mile ride.
The newest connector trail is a tighter and more technical trail. It's quickly became one of my favorite. It's located to the left of the tennis courts (if you're looking from the tennis court entrance). The start is just to the right of the larger double track entrance.
Come ride!
Thank |UPDATE. Completed a few more connector trails. Thanks to Cameron for posting a map on his last review. Working on make shift signs and arrows now, should be up in near future. Great biking / hiking trail if you live close by.
Thank |***Updated Trail Map as of December 2nd, 2016. Look in the trail gallery to find it or download it from https://www.dropbox.com/s/m8mf1kc1p22rdqi/Trails_at_the_Beach_Map.jpg?dl=0 ***
Since my last review in January of this year, the paved trail has been completed and the mountain bike trails were scattered and chopped up. Almost a month ago, I arrived to find that someone had built connector trails to connect the remaining ones. This has breathed new life into this trail and allows for longer rides on dirt without having to hit the pavement. Someone has also been keeping up with cleaning the trails and cutting fallen trees. Thank you to whoever has been doing these things!
Thank |Unfortunately, even with the connectors, there are only 3.3 miles of dirt trails. Thankfully they are bidirectional so you can technically get 6.6 unique miles in if you do it all in reverse. Add in the 1.8 mile paved trail and making 10 miles in a day isn't too hard to do.
Good News
I'm not sure who to thank but someone is cutting new trails at the beach since many got bulldozed for the paved paths.
The majority of the new trails are switchbacks on the west side of the northern lake. they are a little bumpy right now, They could really use some riders to ride and smooth them out.
Thank |Trails are getting better. Able to get onto new cut-thrus & turn around without dismounting.
Thank |Construction of paved trails (assumed) makes the trail discontinuous. This is an OK trail for a short anaerobic ride and for improving bike skills. Some dead ends where the construction has cut across the trail. Expect to dismount to turn around. Lots of roots. Some very steep places. I would not recommend riding here if a another trail is an option.
Thank |This is my local trail and the one I learned to love mountain biking on; that's why I was sad when I showed up to clean up some of the trails today and almost 1/4 of them were demolished... They are currently cutting down trees for a paved path (or at least that's what I heard) right through the middle of the trails. In the main section, half of the trails are completely gone and on the other side they haven't started, but I can see the markings that will at least run through a lot of the trails.
If you do want to ride, THERE ARE TWO TRAILS TO THE LEFT OF THE MAIN ENTRANCE IN THE WOODS and THERE IS A SHORT TRAIL RUNNING ALONG THE SIDE OF CRANE ROAD NEXT TO THE TENNIS COURTS. It doesn't look like they will be ruined. I want to get out there and clean them up some so we have something at least...
RIP Trails at the Beach... you weren't great, but you were ours...
Thank |Dont waste your time here unless you live close. No markings trail is horrible just puke. * Review edited 9/30/2012
Thank |You can access a trail map at the Atlanta SORBA website.
Thank |This is the worst trail system I've ever been to. I suppose something has to be worst right? Signage is awful. Trails cross themselves everywhere (like Yellow river). Very limited number of miles. We rode a whole 6 miles and found ourselves on the same sections multiple times. Nothing is remotely challenging here and many of the 'trails' were very overgrown. The only reason we ended up here was because Dauset was closed for a race and we didn't have the time to go elsewhere.
Thank |There is a trail head at the right side of the tennis parking lot also if the gravel lot is full, mostly single track. There's a good warm up loop that goes around the park and lots of trails within it.
Thank |I wish Clayton County would take advantage of the CC water company land, they could build a huge and diverse trail system in there* Review edited 4/6/2012* Review edited 4/6/2012

Thank |Trails are in good shape. Small beginner trail system but nice to have some so close by.* Review edited 4/6/2012* Review edited 4/6/2012
Thank |Made my second trip here. I'm new to mtb and live only 10 minutes away, so it's a good "training ground". No trail map and poor markers make it impossible to know what level you're riding, but the way the trails are interconnected makes multiple routes available. Trails are still visible, though. Definitely not 8 miles worth of trail...I assume because of the tennis court addition on top of part of the trail. Not worth a long drive, but if you live close like I do, it would be worth it to stop by.
Thank |Got my start on these trails, in-between classes at nearby Clayton state... It's lost a lot since 2000. The "green" trails are still mostly here, nothing extreme, just easy riding through the woods. What was the good stuff has been mostly built over, and last time I was here alot of what was left of the "red" singletrack was a bit grown-over. Still a decent loop on the left of the road in, with some cool creek crossings and a few steep roll-ins. It was good when I lived next to it.. but I wouldn't drive there.
Thank |I don't ride these trails often but I'm glad to see they're being maintained. It can be difficult to connect up some sections, particularly the trails across the divided parkway. Good signage, though it can be inconsistent (wooden arrows, metal signs, and spray paint on trees). A fair amount of rocks and roots in sections.
Thank |Rode the RED trail again today for the 2nd time today. Fairly technical with plenty of short, steep climbs and nice descents. My only gripe with this trail is that it can be confusing distinguishing between the 3 different levels of difficulty. RED = Advanced, BLUE = Difficult, GREEN = Beginner and in many places you cannot tell what trail you are actually on.
Thank |5+ miles of single and double track trails that circle the pond in the park. Hand cut trail that is rooty and twisty with technical spots that will catch you off guard if you don't know they are coming. With a few more miles of trail this could be a really sweet trail.
Thank |A good mix of up and down, easy and hard. There are some roots and rocks, but nothing super technical, but enough to make you stay focused and pick good lines. The climbs are short but some are pretty steep and there are a good number of creek dips that are pretty fun. All in all it's a fun ride. There is a nice flow through most of the trail and some really fast areas.
