Look for the start of Rim Trail #122 on the left. This 3.8m double track is a great way to warm up the legs before hitting the singletrack. There is a beautiful viewpoint approximately halfway through the trail before descending down a fast and wild journey back to Divide Road.
From here, you will take a right onto Divide Road for approximately 1 mile. Look for Forest Fence Trail #128 on your left. This bonafide singletrack trail is a fun route bouncing through the forest, and dipping through a couple creeks. You will intersect FSR 532, head right for 1/4 mile, and take a left to stay on Forest Fence. Once you're back on Forest Fence Trail, enjoy the cruise for 2.6 miles before dumping onto FSR 562 at a cattle guard. Head down FST 562. You'll see Forest Fence Trail on your right just past the cattleguard.
In .1 mile, take a right onto FSR 562.1A, this will lead straight into Dented Door Trail #248. Hold yer britches, this is a descent worth hootin' and hollerin' for! At 1.6 miles and a max of 25% max grade, there are TALL water bars along the way to play on. You will intersect Spring Creek #116. Head right and follow the trail. You are entering a new eco-zone, and will feel the heat (or the humidity after a good rain storm). This is an ATV trail, and can be loose, but it is fast and fun! After the steep downhill to Spring Creek, cross the creek and continue on rolling doubletrack. At 5.6 miles there is a single track gate at the start of the Lower Spring Creek Trail (LSC) #116.1C singletrack. At this spot there is also your first bail-out option: a steep doubletrack that goes to the canyon rim. It's 2 miles to Dave Wood Road from here. Lower Spring Creek is 7 miles of descending bliss and what makes The Whole Uncalada
comes alive! Towards the end of LSC, the terrain becomes rolling. At the very end the trail turns sharply upward on steep switchbacks ridden only in our dreams.
At the top of the canyon a short singletrack leads to Dave Wood Road. Follow the pavement left (north-east) about 1/4 mile, and look sharply for an old doubletrack on the left marked with a BLM sign. This is the Dakota Rim Trail, which marks the top of the Buzzard Gulch Trail System.
Follow Dakota Rim down through rough stuff, then take a sharp left onto Broken Antler Trail. After 1/2 mile, take a sharp left onto Buzzard Gulch Trail, ride 1/2 mile on fast singletrack, then another left on P.J. Way. This is a fast descent with blind curves, so be watchful for other trail users. P.J. Way finishes on a steep hill, then joins with Buzzard Gulch Trail. Take this trail down the wash to the Spring Creek Canyon Trailhead parking lot (left at the final fork).
