Mountain Biking Thompson Park Rec Trail
#119 of 301 mountain bike trails in New York
Gravel road at first Going around the back side of park turing into a single track through forest, some easy to moderate descents and then direct climbs through out the trail, about mid way through the trail becomes somewhat technical with hairpin turns through small trees and underbrush on very thin trail. The trail then connects to a nature walk trail if you take a right and go up about 200 meters there is another trail on the left leading through a tight brush section up a climb and you can oversee an old rock quarry below, going down to it is steep and a shart right at the bottom then over moderate size rocks leading into more forect and then through some soft dirt and mud, continue like this untill end of trail and exits on paved road on other side of park.

From Watertown Travel north on States street to Park Road, turn right, Go around circle and up hill to park. Trail will begin in several places but easiest is at the top of hill on left starting off as a gravel road turning into a single track.
More of a xc trail than anything. Has a few decents that you can bomb down but very short. Only thing that is even worth riding in watertown, ny.
Thank |Really nice flowing trails. Would be hard to find on one's own. The local bike shop Blackwater Adventure Sports does a group ride every Thursday at 6pm.
Thank |It's a sweet ride, a bit rooty and rocky. Good climbs and descents for the area. Jump in right at the start of the park across from the first parking lot. Go right at first, then start going left (pretty sure). Some muddy spots at the start if it rained recently. It forks in places, but you end up on the golf course if you went the wrong way. There's a place where you can ride across a downed tree. From the direction you are coming you will ride around it. Take a left after that. Once you come out to a clearing with a small storage shed and a wire link fence, go towards the right into the trees again. Once out of there you are on an old dirt access road, take a right, then a left not too far down the hill back into the woods. Once you hit the park pavement again, bust a right and then there is more singletrack down the way off the right side, which will eventually lead you back towards the entrance to the park. Someone was building some jumps here when I was there.
For a better start, skip parking at the park and go to the Watertown High School off of Washington Street. Park on Green Street, and behind the track field, there's a double track entrance. Follow this, take a left at the fork, and this eventually turns into some decent singletrack with good climbs, and it comes out right across from Thompson Park!!
