This is a well-maintained singletrack, lariat-configured trail that twists and turns through a mixed conifer forest of bristlecone pine, lodgepole pine, Doug fir and aspen. The first 0.8 mi is the stem of the lariat and all uphill. When you reach the loop, turn left and proceed clockwise around the loop. In doing so, you will travel another 1.7 mi mostly uphill until you reach a forest road (FR182B). Turn right and follow the road 0.3 mi to the junction of FR 182B and FR 318. At this junction look for the trail re-entering the forest on your right. From here, thoroughly enjoy a fast, flowy, gradual 1.4 mi downhill as you speed through forest. To complete the loop, travel another 0.5 mile mostly gradually uphill. At this point you can either do the loop again in either direction or turn left and head down a blazing fast 0.8 mi descent which is the stem of the lariat that you began on.
