Mountain Biking Tower Loop
#21 of 115 mountain bike trails in South Carolina
3.5 mile Tower Loop is one of the more advanced trails in the FATS system but advanced is a bit of a misnomer. Very little about this trail is actually hard. In fact, it's a very enjoyable ride with only a little elevation gain and a couple of roots to challenge you.

From I-20 near Augusta, GA take SC Exit 1 (SC 230). Head north on SC 230 for about 5 miles. Turn left on Woodlawn Rd. Go approx. 4 miles, trailhead parking area for the southern trails are on the left. If you specifically want to ride Tower Loop, keep heading past this parking lot and make a left on Deepstep Rd. About 2-3 miles down Deepstep Rd, FS 661 (a gravel rd)will enter from the left. Turn up FS 661 and drive in until you reach the parking lot. The access to Tower Loop is halfway through the Big Rock Loop which runs through the parking lot.
A lot of fun. If you're going fast it feels more technical than the other trails, though not necessarily in the traditional sense. It's just that it's narrower in spots and it feels a little trickier to navigate (in a good way). Highly recommended.

Thank |Nice trail. A lot of opportunity to get some air. FATS always delivers a good time.

Thank |The best advise I can give is park at the NW end to access this trail. The connector is a road, then a gravel road that cars ride on. After all of that, you arrive at a parking lot to access the trail just feet away. This trail is less traveled than trails to the south east. A bit more technical but not much. No scenery, no dabs and no stream crossings. I never saw the tower but I guess it was up a side trail that I did not ride.
Thank |First time riding the trails on this side of FATS today, I think they are my new favorites!

Thank |Gorgeous singletrack! Super smooth and flowy.
Thank |Tower is one of the better 2-3 loops at FATS. Deep Step and Big Rock are the other two stellar, non flat loops.

Thank |FUN! seems like you are either going up or riding down a section of trail the whole time. Narrower tread (along with Big Rock) then the other loops at FATS. Great place to ride on busy days at FATS since the northern trails get less riders. I prefer this loop clockwise.
Thank |The other loop on the north end of the FATS system, Tower is accessed from Big Rock and feels like an extension of it as well. You'll see the big fire tower that it was named after when you ride. Too bad they won't let people climb to the top and check out the views. :( If you can't ride all the trails at FATS in one day, I feel like Tower and Big Rock should be tackled separately as one continuous 7 mile ride. They just have a different feel to them than the rest. Good, but different.
