Mountain Biking Towsley Canyon

****   Add a review
#207 of 1,004 mountain bike trails in California
#2,836 in the world

The trail makes a complete loop wich covers 5.1 miles. Its all fast swooping singletrack the whole way up and down. And there is a small loop thats only 1.1 miles. The trailheads are clearly marked. Trail is best used during weekdays because it fills with hikers during the weekend wich makes the ride slow.

Nice road/ DT warm up, short section of rock in the creek bed, then start climbing on the wide, smooth, but steep ST. Once at the top take in the vista, and head down the wider, and steeper trail. Unless you have Superman legs ride CCW. Overall a nice trail. Would not try to ride on a weekend. 1PM Good Friday afternoon meet 8 families, a couple dozen other users, including many good looking members of the opposite sex.

Love this trail. I would say that if you only have an hour to ride this is thee trail. I would avoid weekend just cause of all the hikers. Love to combine this trail with Nature Center

If you want a quick hard workout... I think here it is. Most all your time will be spent climbing the mountain with switchback after switchback, which could potentially be pretty ugly if you're out of shape. Top the mountain and the descent is a pretty cool reward and you can really cruise, provided there's not a lot of hikers. It'd be crazy to go clockwise... and speaking with other riders while on the trail they all agree. The ride can be summarized as CLIMB up, and zip down. There's really nothing else to it.

I went on a Wednesday and the foot traffic was minimal but you still have to be careful of the blind turns. I walked part of the trail because I'm out of practice but anyone in good shape could handle it. You can ride the trail either direction but I think CCW would be an easier ride up. All in all a pretty quick fun ride.
