A scenic landscape featuring rolling green hills, a valley, and majestic mountains in the background under a partly cloudy sky. In the foreground, there are wooden buildings and winding paths, with patches of water visible in the landscape. The scene captures the beauty of nature and a peaceful rural setting. Mountain Biking Upper Upper Loop

Fantastic ride you can get to from downtown CB. Little bit of climbing when you first hit the Upper Loop on some nice singletrack, then it's some fast and fun downhill (singletrack) that gets moving pretty quick, right at the base of Mt. Crested Butte. You'll come up to a point where you can take a right on Tony's Trail and head back into town, or you can keep going a bit and then bang a left and take the Upper Upper Loop. Upper Upper is super cool/fun, climbing through an aspen grove the whole time pretty much on real nice singletrack. There's a few mildly technical spots, but nothing too challenging. A good change of pace from the fast singletrack. After a while you'll come to the Whetstone Vista trail, which is a real fun, rocky singletrack trail that brings you down to some road. Whetstone is very east-coast-ish in terms of its rocky-ness, and tons of fun because of it. That will bring you down to a road you can take back into town (and a bike path too). You can keep going straight instead of going down Whetstone, but I didn't do it so I couldn't tell you. Another way that would be killer fun is to just turn around and ride the Upper Upper back the way you came, would be ridiculous fun downhill through the aspen grove, and you can get back into town that way without having to ride on the road (like you do if you take Whetstone). Highly recommend riding this trail, lots of fun, easy to get to.

Getting there
Ride west out of town on Teocalli Avenue to connect to the Rec Path. This gravel path crosses Brush Creek and then becomes paved, and heads up to the town of Mt. Crested Butte, meeting Gothic Road at the entrance to town. Cross Gothic Road on the crosswalk, and keep following the Rec Path until you see Hunter Hill Road on your right. (You could ride this bit on the road ... but why?) Turn right on Hunter Hill Road, and right again at the next intersection again on Hunter Hill. Go down, then up past The Overlook turnoff. The singletrack starts at the first hard left switchback, where there’s a parking area and a trail sign.

This is the beginning of Upper Loop. From here, you can connect to a bunch of trails, like Tony's Trail, Upper Upper Loop, Whetstone Vista, etc.

This trail is a very mixed bag that has everything from tons of rocks to smooth, flowing sections. Gorgeous singletrack that is easily accessible from town... I highly recommend it!
