Mountain Biking Van Peenen - Green Trails
#46 of 99 mountain bike trails in Iowa
The trail itself is a wide grass path mowed into the prairie. The beaten dirt
trail is about 6-12 inches wide. It is mostly rolling hills. Minimal rocks and
roots on the Prairie trail. The Pines (East and West) cut through the pines.
Very flowy, no rocks and a few roots. The Prairie and Pines are great
beginner trails, once you get there.
Recommended route: Ride the Prairie loop and then jump into Pines West
followed by Pines East.

From downtown in Decorah take College Drive to Quarry Street/Ice Cave
Road. The parking lot is about 1 mile down the road, at the four-way stop.
These trails are at the top of the hill. The "easiest" way to get there is
riding north on Quarry Hill Road, but it is quite the hill. There will be a sign
on the left side of the road about 1 mil from the four-way stop. Be sure to
pick up a map at the bike store on College Drive (Decorah Bicycles)
You can also access these trails via the Van Peenen - Blue Trails but this
route is harder...and more fun.
Great warm up or beginner trails. Trails are well marked and easy to get around! Fun place to start your MTB experience in Decorah.
Thank |Wide open trail that is shared with horses. The Prairie loop is in full-sun and has some rolling hills. Both Pines East and Pines West are in the trees, but not very technical. A nice, easy ride and you can carry a lot of speed through the pines. The Pines have a lot of curves, the prairie is mostly straight sections.
