Mountain Biking Waikato River Trails: 3 Waipapa

****   Add a review
#43 of 171 mountain bike trails in North Island

The trail is wide and well formed with just a few steep pitches. It is never from from the shores of Lake Waipapa or Lake Maraetai. The scenery is stunning all the way and there are great views of Maraetai Dam. The lake at Mangakino is absolutely fantastic and it's great swimming.

Getting there
Normally you'll get to this section of the Waikato River Trails by riding south from the Arapuni section or, if you're riding north, from the Maraetai section.. Both ends can be accessed by car. From Mangakino take Waipapa Road to Waipapa dam to reach the north end or just go down to the lake front to reach the southern end.

It's a really nice part of the Waikato River. The Waipapa dam is very impressive. Beautiful ride. Nice swim too.
