Mountain Biking Waikato River Trails: 5 Whakamaru
#70 of 171 mountain bike trails in North Island
The trail is wide, smooth and flat for much of the way but there are some short steep or rocky pitches as well as some sharp corners. It's very scenic with soaring bluffs over a serene lake with places to swim, and there are forests, farms and a wetland.

Eastern end: About 50km north of Taupo on State Highway 1, just past Atiamuri you'll see the Waikato River Trails sign. The car park is 100m away... Western end: Whakamaru Dam
It's a beautiful ride, just 23.5km long on a good trail with views to die for.
