Mountain Biking Wangbangsan

***   Add a review
#2 of 18 mountain bike trails in South Korea
#881 in the world

This course follows road for a few miles before transitioning into 4x4 trail (wartime service trail). From

stadium, follow road south to intersection, then left toward Camp Hovey (Tokari); there are MTB signs

that point out this course - follow them, there is an Advanced section of the course in the first stages,

not included in this review (will write about that in separate review). You are taking Hwy 364 to 379 like

you are going the back way to Yangju or Uijongbu. The trail turns left at an MTB sign just before you go

through the tunnel to Yangju. This is where the trail becomes 4x4 trail. There are several sections to this

course - if you follow the MTB signs it will take you back to Camp Hovey. The last section of the course

goes behind the Camp Hovey gate (look for MTB sign!) and over the hill back to the Stadium. This is a

great work out ride!

Great for a long endurance ride with a view. If you are looking for singletrack, you won't find any here unless you add the Chilbongsan trail to the loop. Mostly all forest roads.

Very fun MTB Trail. I had an absolute BLAST coming down these sections. It CAN be done on a hardtail if you have a some-what decent technical skill set, otherwise, there's Machasan right down the road.

This trail isn't fun. It's awesome Chilbongsan actually has an MTB course designation. Few trails explicitly allow mountain biking in South Korea. But I think Koreans don't distinguish a difference between mountain biking that's powered by a motor (motocross), and mountain biking that's powered by human quadriceps--because this course seems fit for the former. Mountain biking this trail should be reserved for the advanced double black diamond riders who enjoy steep grades. Riding this trail is like riding the edge of a sawtooth. Straight up then straight down; so it's going to be a hike-a-bike afternoon for anyone that goes out there.

The first hill is a beast! we biked up the first bit then had to walk the rest. This trail is not for beginners.

getting to the place isn't hard because they have a MTB sign on the side of the road where you turn to climb a crazy hill. you'll either hike the bike or granny it up on your lowest gear. once you get to the parking area you'll go through green pilons which has a very stupid steep grade which will feel like you're lungs are ganna explode. you'll either hike the bike up or granny it up while zig zagging you're way up. after a while it'll become gravel but once you get to the top is a nice overview. after that is where the trial starts. its all single track through the whole thing. you gatta watch out and moderate your speed because theres a lot of korean people that like to go hiking there and also like to bring their children along. theres just as much as hike a bike as there are decents. some areas gets really tricky so take you're time. the trail over all is really fun and challenging, i'd only recommend those who are really in good shape, especially when doing this is the summer

really straight forward ride, nothing technical. its mainly an endurance ride along side a mountain with lots of ups and short downhills.

This is a work out trail - mostly double track with a bit of road.
