The Wapiti Creek Trail is a multiple use trail, including being open to
motorcycles. It offers panoramic views of the Sawtooth Mountains as you
gain the ridge and near the trails terminus at the Ten Mile Ridge Trail. The
first part of the trail climbs for over a mile, following multiple switchbacks
across a hillside to gain the ridge. The trail makes a sidehill traverse across
loose granitic soils, and enters a saddle before leveling off. The route is
easier as trail follows along the ridge for over 2 miles to the junction with
the Ten Mile Ridge Trail. From the junction bicycle travel is only permitted to
the right (west) portion of the Ten Mile Ridge Trail (taking a left takes you
into the Sawtooth Wilderness). A partial loop for cyclists can be made by
climbing the Wapiti Creek Trail with the Ten Mile Ridge and Blue Jay Trails
(ending at Bonneville Hot Springs!). A full loop can be made by adding
National Forest System Roads 524 and 525 as well as a portion of State
Hwy 21. The first part of the ride is really a grunt and may require a hike-a-
bike, but views are spectacular after gaining the ridge, and it offers big-ride
opportunity if linked with other trails and roads.
