You will find a bit of everything during your hike or ride on this easy to moderate trail. Follow the yellow blazes through a diverse area of swamp and almost mountainous terrain. Although, the ascent is only to approximately 230 feet, it’s the highest point in the area and provides a spectacular view. When you cross each of the eight trestles, stop and take in the view. As you pass under towering hardwoods and cypress trees you may be treated to a large variety of animals and birds. Some flowering plants normally only found in the mountains may also be seen here.

I only rode the single track part of this trail. I was nice but short.
Thank |One of the nicer sections of the Palmetto Trail. Trail has an abundance of wildlife from wild turkey, pileated woodpeckers, owls, fox, etc. Trail alternates between a swampy bottomland ecosystem to a nearly mountain type ecosystem w/ some nice vistas. IMO, the best time to ride this trail is in the spring or fall when you'll find dogwoods blooming & wildflowers for the former & blazes of orange, red & yellow for the latter. The trail is a combination of singletrack & doubletrack w/ nothing particularly technical about it. The ride on the old railroad bed across the eight trestles is very nice & isolated & gives the rider the impression that he/she is on safari. Total distance is >14 miles & is definitely worth it if you're looking for a no frills trail w/ an abundance of scenery & wildlife!* Review edited 10/24/2009
