Mountain Biking Wheeler Creek

****   Add a review
#135 of 710 mountain bike trails in Utah
#3,596 in the world

The first couple miles of this ride are rather uninteresting. Although the old dort road is closed to bikes, it still feels like a road. Fortunately, it's nicely wooded. The singletrack then provides some challenge, good variety, and a great workout if you push it. It also makes for a fun, fast downhill on the return trip.

Getting there
Head East from Ogden on Highway 39. Go about 5 miles up the canyon. Look for a pullout on the right, just before Pineview Reservoir Dam. If you get to the dam, you just missed the turnout.

One of my favorites to get up to Snowbasin trails. Steady climb. Great on Fatbike after trail packed by snow shoers.

The actual wheeler creek trail/road is just so-so, the spectacular trails are at the top (end) of wheeler creek. I prefer to drive to that trailhead and begin my rides from there rather than climb wheeler. From the top of wheeler you have access to an amazing trail network that goes up into SnowBasin Ski Resort which are the best trails in the Ogden area.

I really enjoy this trail - the first 1.9 miles through Wheeler Creek Trail are well shaded and easy riding, then when you hit the Art Nord Trailhead and head onto the Maples Trail you get a good variety with some more technical challenges and climbing, a few bridges, and some great views. This also offers a great ride you can tag onto the end to go up to Coldwater Overlook and get an absolutely breathtaking view.
