Mountain Biking Whistle Lake - Acfl
#192 of 1,216 mountain bike trails in Washington
Of the three ACFL areas this one is on much steeper terrain than the other two so the trails here are more challenging and subsequently less traveled. There are a couple drivable FS Roads that can be used for shuttle type rides or just easier climbing. Up and over Little Round Top can be a challenge with a little hike-a-bike as some of the other routes are also. There are a lot of trails in this area so taking a map is advised. All trails are well signed at intersections, numbered and although may not be in order do make sense after you have ridden here a bit. There are a few trails that are designated ‘hiker only’, predominantly around the immediate lake shores and some steep ridges.

The ACFL areas are planned community-wise so there are many access points from small neighborhoods, most of these however do not have much in the way of public parking. The following are trailheads with public parking;
1. From Commercial ave (the main st) in Anacortes turn West on 32 st and follow it to H ave, turn left (south) onto H and follow it about a mile where it turns into Heart Lake rd, about .5 mile farther is a right turn into large parking lot for Heart Lake. Access for the Whistle Lake area is directly back across main rd.
2. Continuing on Heart Lake rd .5 mile there is parking on the left at the intersection of Mt Erie rd, several trails in this area start from or loop back to Mt Erie rd.
3. Take Commercial ave south to Fidalgo Ave and turn left, follow this as it winds a little and becomes Whistle Lake rd, follow this almost 1 mile to Whistle Lake Terrace and follow signs to parking.
